Toyota drove off the road and crashed into a fence in Mykolaiv: passenger died

In the evening of September 23, at approximately 21:25, a fatal road traffic accident occurred on Troitska Street in Mykolaiv. The 39-year-old driver of a Toyota RAV 4 drove off the roadway, after which the crossover collided with a house fence.

The driver and two of his passengers — a 28-year-old woman and a 46-year-old man — sustained injuries of varying severity. All were taken to a medical facility. Later the 46-year-old passenger died in hospital.

After the crash the driver disappeared from the medical facility in an unknown direction. According to preliminary police information, the driver was intoxicated. Law enforcement are currently establishing his whereabouts.

Investigators have provisionally classified the incident under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — violation of traffic safety rules or vehicle operation by a person driving a vehicle that caused the death of the victim.

The article’s sanction provides for up to 8 years of imprisonment with disqualification from driving for up to 3 years or without such disqualification.

The Transport Crime Investigation Department of the Investigative Directorate asks citizens who have information about the circumstances of the accident or the driver’s whereabouts to contact the numbers 093-714-45-20 or 102.
