Night tragedy in the center of Mykolaiv: female driver died, two underage female passengers hospitalized

In the evening of 20 June 2026, a fatal road traffic accident occurred in the city center of Mykolaiv involving an Audi and a Citroen C3. As a result of the collision the female driver of one of the cars died, and 2 underage passengers were injured. This was reported by the communications department of the police of Mykolaiv Oblast.

The accident occurred at about 22:15 at the regulated intersection of Central Avenue and Zakhysnykiv Mykolaieva Street. According to preliminary information from law enforcement, an Audi and a Citroen C3 collided at the intersection. The detailed mechanism of the accident, the directions of movement of the vehicles and the cause of the collision were not specified in the initial police report.

As a result of the injuries, the female driver of the Citroen C3 died at the scene. Her 2 underage passengers also sustained bodily injuries. The injured girls were hospitalized. Law enforcement has not yet disclosed information about the nature of their injuries or their condition.

The driver of the Audi was not injured in the collision.

Police investigators worked at the scene of the fatal accident. Law enforcement conducted initial investigative actions, recorded the positions of the vehicles and other circumstances that may help reconstruct the mechanism of the collision. The criminal proceeding was preliminarily classified under Part 3 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – violation of road safety rules by a person operating a vehicle while intoxicated by alcohol, drugs or other substances, which caused the death of the victim.

At the same time, the initial police report does not indicate which of the accident participants showed signs of intoxication, nor does it provide the results of the relevant examination. Final conclusions are to be made after the necessary examinations and investigative actions are carried out.

The sanction of Part 3 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine provides for 5 to 10 years imprisonment with disqualification from driving vehicles for a term of 5 to 10 years. Investigators are currently establishing all the circumstances and causes of the fatal road accident.
