Snatched a phone, shoved a passerby and fled: attack in the Mykolaiv region
In Pervomaisk, the suspect was taken into custody
At night on 19 September near the supermarket on Korabelna Street in Pervomaisk an unknown person took a mobile phone from a passerby, pushed him and ran away. From the push the victim fell to the ground.
The man called the emergency line 102 and described the attacker. A forensic-operational team, patrol police response units and detectives of the Pervomaisk District Police Department responded to the call.
Based on the provided description, the suspect was located on one of the city streets in less than an hour. According to the police, he turned out to be a 31-year-old serviceman who had left his military unit without authorization and had previously repeatedly come to the attention of law enforcement.
The man was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Seeing the police squad, he managed to throw the taken phone into the bushes. The mobile phone was found and seized during the examination of the scene. After examinations are carried out, it is to be returned to its owner.
Under the procedural guidance of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Defense of the Southern Region, the detainee was informed of suspicion under Part 4 of Article 186 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This concerns robbery under martial law, combined with violence that is not dangerous to the victim’s health.
Under this article the suspect faces up to 10 years of imprisonment. The court remanded him in custody with the right to post bail. The police are also checking the suspect’s possible involvement in other crimes; the pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
