The Mykolaiv authorities and the TCC agreed to jointly return veterans to civilian life
The parties will also assist the families of the fallen and of those taken prisoner
10 September in Mykolaiv the City Council and the Mykolaiv Regional Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support signed a memorandum of partnership and cooperation. The document is intended to unite the efforts of the city authorities and the military in developing veteran policy and in the social protection of the community’s residents.
The memorandum was signed by Mayor Олександр Сєнкевич and the head of the Mykolaiv Regional Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support, Colonel Олександр Самотей.
The following also took part in the meeting:
- head of the Department for War Veterans Affairs Сергій Зайцев;
- his deputy Ірина Кочева;
- director of the Mykolaiv City Center for Support of War Veterans Віктор Мойсеєв;
- deputy head of the Mykolaiv Regional Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support, Colonel Віктор Мамчур;
- head of the CVC group of the Mykolaiv Regional Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support, Major Сергій Міндьо.
One of the main directions of cooperation was identified as social support for war veterans and their reintegration into civilian life. Assistance should cover employment, career guidance and psychological rehabilitation.
“When a serviceman leaves the service, he first goes to the Territorial Center to register for military records. Next, a person who has spent several years at war faces many questions. During that time they have become distanced from society, and we must help them return. City centers and specialists can provide such assistance. This is our main joint task — to return the serviceman to society,” — said Олександр Самотей.
Separately, the parties plan to care for the families of fallen, missing and captured servicemen. They will also jointly develop the institute of specialists who accompany veterans and, on the principle “equal to equal,” will help former fighters promptly resolve legal, medical and social issues.
The work of such specialists has already begun to be implemented in the Territorial Centers of four districts of the city.
Another direction will be national-patriotic education of youth and organizing a dignified honoring of the memory of fallen defenders, observing military rituals and honors.
“Most people do not even realize this area of the Territorial Center’s work, within which we are initiating cooperation today. Everyone only knows about recruiting. But this is a very important direction, and we need to develop it, promote it and show results. We have a lot of work ahead of us. So thank you and I wish you success,” — said Mayor Олександр Сєнкевич.
The document is intended to establish coordination and information exchange between the city authorities and the military in order to respond more quickly to the needs of defenders and their families.
