The wife of the Nissan driver is asking witnesses to help clarify the fatal crash near Mykolaiv
Twelve people were killed in the accident, and six were injured
July 4 at about 07:42 near the village of Nechayane on the Odesa—Mykolaiv highway a road accident occurred in which 12 people were killed. Another six participants in the crash were injured, including a 15-year-old girl.
The wife of the Nissan driver, whom the investigation considers involved in the crash, made a public appeal to witnesses. She is asking for help to reconstruct all the circumstances of the tragedy and to provide dashcam recordings.
According to the investigation, the Nissan driver drove into the oncoming lane and created a dangerous situation for a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter minibus. Its driver, trying to avoid a collision, drove onto the shoulder, lost control, after which the minibus overturned and collided with a Volvo truck.
The Nissan driver — a 45-year-old resident of Kryvyi Rih — was found by law enforcement. According to the publication’s sources, he previously served in the police and in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. A test with a Drager device showed that the man was sober at the time of the accident. He is currently in custody.
The man’s wife disagrees with the version that blames him. She said that, two months after the crash, the investigation, in her words, still had not obtained the recording from the minibus’s dashcam and had not established its actual speed before the collision.
This is important for me and for establishing the truth. I want a fair investigation so that the real culprit of this tragedy is punished, the woman said.
She called on people who, on the morning of July 4, were traveling on the Odesa—Mykolaiv highway in the area of Nechayane and might have seen the white passenger minibus, the Nissan car, the moment of the crash itself, or have dashcam recordings. For contact the woman left the number 063 83 277 23.
According to her, she is not asking social media users to take sides, but wants to receive any testimony or video that will help recreate the course of the crash.
The final legal assessment of the Nissan driver’s actions is to be given by law enforcement and the court within the criminal proceedings under part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — violation of traffic safety rules that caused the death of several people.
