A fragment of a "Shahed" struck a woman's head as she was riding in a car: in Mykolaiv the drone exploded on a busy street

In the evening of September 9, 2026 a Russian drone exploded on one of the busy streets of Mykolaiv. At that moment a woman was passing by in a Renault Megane: according to a correspondent of “Novin-N”, a fragment of a “Shahed” fatally wounded her. After the driver’s death the vehicle, uncontrolled, drove about 100 meters, changed direction and crashed into a metal fence.

According to the outlet, the enemy drone exploded directly in the urban area. Besides the deceased woman, residents of the surrounding houses felt the consequences of the strike: homes and parked cars were damaged by the blast wave and debris.

In total 4 residential buildings were damaged – 2 five-story buildings and 2 nine-story buildings. In the apartment blocks mostly windows were blown out and balconies damaged. Several cars parked near the buildings were also damaged.

After this series of strikes the acting head of the Mykolaiv RMA Heorhiy Reshetilov reported that as a result of Russian attacks on Mykolaiv in the afternoon 2 people were killed. Preliminary reports indicate that 9 more people were injured. Among them was a 1-year-old boy. The child received medical assistance and will continue treatment as an outpatient. The other injured were hospitalized in varying degrees of severity.

Commenting on the nearly continuous strikes on the city and region throughout September 9, Heorhiy Reshetilov stressed the human cost of the Russian attacks.

“For almost a day Russia has been terrorizing Mykolaiv and the region. Behind each such attack are human lives, the pain of families and our communities.”

At the same time, the Air Forces repeatedly warned during the day specifically about the movement of jet UAVs toward Mykolaiv. In particular, the OVA issued such notifications at 16:45 and 17:05.

The deadly evening strike was a continuation of one of the largest attacks on the Mykolaiv region in recent times. On the night of September 9 and in the morning Russian forces carried out a combined strike on Mykolaiv and the Mykolaiv district with rockets, guided aerial bombs and drones.

At night one of the Russian strikes hit a residential area of Mykolaiv. A two-story private house and a garage were destroyed. During search-and-rescue operations the body of a 70-year-old woman was recovered from the rubble. According to updated data from the prosecutor’s office, 7 people were injured during the night and morning attack, including a 15-year-old.

Russian strikes during the day also damaged port, industrial and logistics infrastructure, warehouse and office premises, grain terminals, transport companies, a shopping center and vehicles. Large-scale fires broke out at several facilities.
