"They shun military personnel": the family of a Ukrainian serviceman encountered a problem while searching for housing in Mykolaiv
In Mykolaiv, a family was refused a rental because the husband is a serviceman who has been defending Ukraine for more than 10 years
The family of a Ukrainian serviceman is looking to rent housing specifically in Mykolaiv. The serviceman’s wife told about the difficulties that arose during the apartment search.
According to the woman, her husband has been defending Ukraine for over 10 years. The family lost their home in Mariupol, and the serviceman is currently defending Kharkiv region. Before that he carried out combat missions in the Mykolaiv region.
The author of the post also noted that her husband took part in successful operations behind the lines of the Russian occupiers, fought in the Kursk region and sustained injuries.
Now, due to family circumstances, the family needs to rent an apartment in Mykolaiv. The woman emphasized that a relatively normal life in the city became possible in part thanks to the military, who at one time prevented the Russian invaders from occupying the regional center.
In her post she left a link to the apartment rental listing in the Korabelnyi district and stated that the person the family spoke to about the housing “shuns servicemen”.
The listing is for a three-room apartment with an area of 63 m² on Olzhych Street. In the listing, published on August 27, 2026, the rent is listed as 7,300 UAH, the same amount for the deposit, and 3,800 UAH for realtor services. The text of the listing itself does not mention a refusal to rent the property to servicemen.
The serviceman’s wife hopes that the city’s residents will support the defender and help the family find housing in Mykolaiv.
