17 August 1941: German units entered Mykolaiv via Vodopii

Although in the official chronology the start of the Nazi occupation of Mykolaiv is often dated 16 August 1941, research by historian Yurii Vadymovych Kotliar clarifies: the last Soviet units left the city on 16 August, and on the morning of 17 August German motorcyclists entered Mykolaiv through Vodopii.

Dmytro Vyacheslavovych Heorhiiev was born in Mykolaiv and served in the 15th Separate Mountain Infantry Battalion of the 128th brigade. He was killed on 25 July 2014 during the defense of Luhansk Airport, was posthumously awarded the rank of major and received the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky III degree.

Around 02:00 several trading structures were installed near buildings No. 338 and No. 340 on Bohoyavlenskyi Avenue. On this day in Ukraine and the world

17 August 1945 Indonesia declared independence. And on 17 August 2008 American swimmer Michael Phelps won his 8th gold medal in Beijing at a single Olympic Games, becoming the first athlete to achieve that.

For Mykolaiv 17 August proved to be a date where war and shipbuilding stand side by side: from the German troops in 1941 to the departure of the repaired “Pryluky” in 2021 and the new Russian strike in 2022. And for the Korabelnyi District this date also left a nighttime story of kiosks by the gas network.
