An animal is also a passenger: in Mykolaiv they explained how to properly bring a cat or dog onto a trolleybus
Cat in a carrier, dog on a short leash: how to take pets on Mykolaiv trolleybuses
Pets regularly travel with passengers on trams and trolleybuses in Mykolaiv. The municipal enterprise “Mykolaivelektrotrans” reminded residents of the rules for transporting animals on city electric transport and explained under which conditions no additional payment is required. Information about the relevant rules has been published by the enterprise.
Small animals may be transported for free on trams and trolleybuses, but they must be kept in a cage. Dogs may be transported muzzled and must be on a short leash. For cats and small dogs a special carrier bag or container is required.
Mykolaivelektrotrans also advises not to wait until the trip itself to first introduce the animal to the carrier. It is better to place it at home in a spot accessible to the pet in advance so that the animal can get used to it and does not perceive the container as something dangerous.
You can put a toy familiar to the animal or a small cushion inside the carrier. This will help create a more familiar environment and make the journey calmer.
Owners are advised to pay special attention to trips in hot weather. Be sure to take water for the animal. It is also advisable to have wipes and sanitary bags in case of unforeseen situations while on board.
The enterprise emphasizes that a ride on a tram or trolleybus may be a routine part of a person’s daily route, while for a pet traveling by public transport is a completely new experience. That is why preparing the animal and following the rules will help make the trip more comfortable both for the pet and for other passengers.
