Jumped off a pier and didn't resurface: a 13-year-old boy died in Mykolaiv
The body of a child was found approximately 50 meters from the shore
August 9 at around 14:20 in the Namyv neighborhood in Mykolaiv a 13-year-old boy jumped from a pier into the Buzkyi Lyman and disappeared under the water.
According to the State Emergency Service (DSNS), a report of the child’s disappearance was received on the 101 line. The police reported that the call was also received by the 102 emergency line.
A unit of rescue workers from the search and rescue group of the special-purpose emergency rescue detachment, the 10th platoon of the State Militarized Mine Rescue Unit of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, an investigative-operational team and juvenile police officers of the Mykolaiv District Police Department arrived at the scene.
During the search operation, rescuers found the minor’s body on the bottom of the water body approximately 50 meters from the shore, after which they brought it to land.
Investigators opened a criminal case with the preliminary qualification — Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine with the note “Accident”. The police explained that this procedure is applied in similar cases.
The boy’s body was sent for a forensic medical examination. Law enforcement authorities are determining the causes and circumstances of the tragedy and expressed condolences to the deceased’s family.
