Jumped off a pier and didn’t resurface: a 17-year-old boy died in Mykolaiv on the Southern Bug estuary
The State Emergency Service (DSNS) warns: ignoring water safety rules can cost lives
In Mykolaiv, in the Namyv neighborhood, a deadly water tragedy occurred — in the waters of the Buzkyi Liman a 17-year-old youth died.
This was reported on 10 June 2026 by the press service of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Mykolaiv region.
According to preliminary information, the young man jumped off a pier into the water and did not resurface.
His friend immediately rushed to help and tried to rescue him on his own, but the search yielded no result.
During the search-and-rescue operation, divers of the State Emergency Service found the body of the deceased about 30 meters from the shore and brought it to land.
The causes and circumstances of the death are being established by law enforcement.
Rescuers again urge parents and adults to explain to children the rules of safe behavior near bodies of water, not to leave them unattended, and to warn them against dangerous jumps into the water in places not equipped for swimming.
The State Emergency Service emphasizes: neglecting water safety rules can cost lives.
