"Mental state already on the brink": Mykolaiv medics filmed a new clip about what hurts
Iryna Shamray - Matilda, Oleksandr Dem’yanov - Leon: Mykolaiv medics depicted life without embellishment in song
Ahead of Medical Worker’s Day in Mykolaiv, a new music video about the daily life of doctors and nurses was filmed. In it, the head of the city council’s health department, Iryna Shamray, transformed into Mathilda, and the director of the Emergency Medical Hospital, Oleksandr Demyanov – into Leon from the film “Léon: The Professional”.
Together with them, real medical staff from city and regional hospitals appeared in the MART municipal TV channel’s video. No professional actors were involved in the filming.
The main theme of the clip was problems well known to medical workers: 24-hour shifts, fatigue, working with interns, endless patients and lack of time for family and rest.
The song jokes about 12 years of training, coffee instead of rest, a husband and children waiting at home, an unwalked dog and the desire after another shift to ask Hippocrates whether the oath can already be taken back.
Beneath the humor there is also a serious theme of professional burnout. In the finale the authors remind that “the mental state is already on the edge”, but medical workers still continue to save adults and children.
The musical basis of the clip was a cover performed by Ann in Black – Anna Havrylyk, the lyrics for the medical theme were rewritten by Serhiy Melnykov, and the video was directed by Yuriy Tazarachev.
Medical Worker’s Day
[Intro — Dialogue]
— They gave us some weak interns… I’ve been working the second day and I’m already tired. Actually, it’s the second day in a row!
— When I was your age I used to work three shifts too. Why are you, Valera, picking on them? They’re decent interns.
— We were the normal ones, but I don’t know what they’ll turn into.
— Don’t pay attention to Valeriy Volodymyrovych. Everything will be fine with us.
— Yeah, super… Wonderful! 12 years of education, internship, a flexible work schedule, a decent salary, friendly patients — we have a big selection and full exclusivity!
— We live in good times, deciding the dilemma: work another day or go home…
[Verse 1]
Karvalol will take effect, and the kettle is heating water.
Basically, coffee — and I went on rounds.
IV drips, injections, new protocols,
And I’m thinking when to can the tomatoes…
All my girlfriends are at the sea,
And in my corridor — another patient on duty.
[Chorus]
Like this, like this, like this — just super-wonderful!
Hey, nurse? Nurse, turn that machine on!
And you don’t need to worry, because everything will be wonderful for you!
Hear? So what? So what?
Whoever found their calling, knew why they came here.
[Verse 2]
The new intern worked as a doctor for the first time yesterday:
He prescribed treatment, and I had to save (the patient) afterwards.
And I gather histories, it’s already seven on the clock,
And at home… And at home I have:
A husband like a neighbor, an unprepared lunch,
And the dog not walked properly, the children are raised by their granddad.
In my thoughts I go home from work, but I don’t know how…
And I would take the oath back — is that allowed, hear me, Hippocrates?
[Verse 3]
— Hey, doctor, what, are you tired or what?
Get up quickly and go! See, the person feels awful?
Basically, don’t freak out, you’re here — so save.
If there’s nothing, then improvise!
[Verse 4]
And there are already candies and cognac in the office —
Grateful patients congratulated me.
Yes, my daughter comes in with flowers beside me:
“Mom, you are our best medical worker!”
[Bridge]
La-la-la, ho-ho!
La-la-lai-lai-lai-lai…
Although doctors’ mental state is already on the edge,
They will still hold the important frontlines.
They will save adults and little ones,
The main thing is that they still have their own health!
[Final]
And there will be super-wonderful!
Medical Worker’s Day — may happiness await you!
And on other days may everything be great for you too!
What else to add? That you are — awesome!
If anything, I have a call — I’m off!
