22 million to save lives: a specialized neurosurgery department opened in Mykolaiv
A mobile angiograph, a plasma sterilizer, and a washer-disinfector were purchased for the hospital
A specialized endovascular neurosurgery unit has been opened in one of Mykolaiv‘s hospitals, where vascular pathologies of the brain and other urgent conditions will be treated. The new unit is intended to expand the capabilities of the city’s healthcare system, reduce the risk of postoperative complications, and speed up patients’ rehabilitation.
According to the report of the Mykolaiv City Council press service on 13 July 2026.
The project was financed from Mykolaiv’s budget. According to the head of the health department Iryna Shamray, UAH 6 million was allocated for renovating the premises.
The city allocated another UAH 16 million for the purchase of modern medical equipment. With these funds the unit acquired a mobile angiograph, a plasma sterilizer and a washer.
The mobile angiograph allows medics to examine the condition of blood vessels and perform complex minimally invasive procedures. Opening a separate specialized unit will allow the treatment process to be organized more effectively, provide patients with faster care, and create more comfortable conditions for their recovery.
Iryna Shamray noted that the hospital is one of the region’s key medical institutions. It provides assistance not only to residents of Mykolaiv but also to victims of hostilities from the neighboring Kherson region.
The mayor Oleksandr Senkevych, commenting on the opening of the new unit, emphasized that even in the conditions of a full-scale war and budget shortfalls the city continues to invest in renewing medical facilities.
“Despite the city’s extremely limited budget, we continue to modernize our medical institutions. This year this is not the first such project, and renovation work is planned in several more Mykolaiv hospitals. I sincerely thank every taxpayer — it is thanks to your contribution that the city can renew healthcare. I am also grateful to the city council deputies for their consistent support of these important initiatives,” said Senkevych.
In total, UAH 22 million was allocated from the city budget for renovating the premises and equipping the new unit.
