The first half of 2026 in Ukraine was marked by the leadership of Mykolaiv Oblast and Odesa Oblast in wind power capacity: more than 400 MW are concentrated in Mykolaiv Oblast, more than 200 MW in Odesa Oblast, and the country’s total installed wind generation capacity reached 1.115 GW.
The Ministry of Energy reported that in the first half of 2026 70 new wind units with a total capacity of 414.8 MW were commissioned, reinforcing the trend toward expanding renewable generation.
Solar power is also growing rapidly: according to NEC «Ukrenergo», the total capacity of solar power plants in Ukraine stands at 7.3 GW. The largest figures were recorded in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast — 947 MW, Mykolaiv Oblast — 782 MW, and Odesa Oblast — 515 MW.
At the same time, the country is increasing gas-fired generation capacity. About 1.8 GW of distributed gas capacity is currently installed. Since March 2026, an additional 388.8 MW has been brought online, and construction continues at 247 sites with a planned total capacity of 532.2 MW.
Significant progress is also being made in energy storage systems: over the past year their combined capacity has increased more than 300-fold — to over 600 MW. Such installations allow the accumulation of excess generation, primarily from solar power plants, and returning it to the grid during peak demand hours.
Earlier in Mykolaiv the city council created a working group to prepare an Energy Resilience Plan, which is to define priorities for the development of local generation and backup capacities amid wartime risks and rising consumption needs.
