"He gave everything he had": residents of Mykolaiv are urged to support a petition dedicated to Dmytro Zhurbin
His courage and devotion to duty should be recognized with the highest state award
To the editorial office of Korabelov.info came Svitlana Zhurbyna asking to support a petition to confer the title of Hero of Ukraine posthumously on her deceased husband, Dmytro Zhurbin.
“Please vote for the petition to confer the title of Hero of Ukraine on my husband, Dmytro Oleksandrovych Zhurbin,” the woman appealed to readers.
The electronic petition No.22/266222-ep was published on the website of the President of Ukraine on 24 June 2026. The collection of signatures is ongoing.
Dmytro Zhurbin was born on 27 March 1984 in Mykolaiv. He studied at City Gymnasium No. 14, and later graduated from Vocational Technical School No. 25, where he qualified as an auto repair mechanic and as an electric welder.
In 2008 Dmytro married. Together with his wife they raised two children.
“A wonderful father of two little children. A beloved and caring husband with an amazing smile and deep green eyes,” wrote Svitlana Zhurbyna.
Before his service, Dmytro worked for many years at a furniture factory and was an experienced specialist in his field.
On 21 December 2023 he was conscripted for military service through the Korabelnyi District TCC and SP. After training in Zhytomyr Dmytro took the military oath, and in February 2024 he was assigned to the 82nd Separate Air Assault Brigade.
He served as a soldier in the position of rifleman and carried out combat missions on the Zaporizhzhia direction.
On 18 February 2024 Dmytro Zhurbin was killed while performing his military duty near the village of Verbove in Polohy District of Zaporizhzhia Oblast.
For a long time the soldier was considered missing. His relatives hoped until the end to find him alive, but later Dmytro’s death was confirmed by DNA examination results. The defender’s body was returned to Ukraine during repatriation.
On 20 March 2026 Dmytro Zhurbin was buried in the Alley of Glory of the new Korabelnyi cemetery in Balabanivka.
“My husband will never be older than his 39 years. He gave everything he had — his life — for the freedom of Ukraine, the safety of our children and the peace in every home. His courage and fidelity to duty must be recognized with the highest state award,” said the wife of the fallen soldier.
The family asks concerned citizens to support the petition to confer the title of Hero of Ukraine posthumously on soldier Dmytro Zhurbin.
