In the evening of 22 June 2026, a three-vehicle traffic accident occurred on Bohoyavlenskyi Avenue in Mykolaiv, in which 3 people were injured.

On 23 June the communications department of the Mykolaiv Oblast Police reported this.

At about 21:40 near building No. 55-B, a Volkswagen Passat driven by a 31-year-old woman collided with an Opel Mokka, whose driver was a 44-year-old woman.

No one was injured in the first collision. The vehicles sustained mechanical damage and remained on the roadway.

Approximately five minutes later, a BMW X6, driven by a 43-year-old man, crashed at speed into the stationary Volkswagen and Opel.

At that moment the Volkswagen’s passengers were on the road beside it. As a result of the impact, two men aged 23 and 31, and a 28-year-old woman were injured.

All 3 injured were hospitalized with injuries of varying severity.

The driver of the BMW X6 was detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

According to the police, the driver showed obvious signs of intoxication but refused to undergo a medical examination.

Investigators have provisionally qualified the incident under Part 2 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article’s sanction provides for up to 8 years imprisonment and a ban on driving vehicles for a term of 5 to 8 years.

At the same time “Novyny-N” reported that the BMW driver was Oleksandr K., who, according to his own words, works at the Korabelnyi District Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support.

The man also told a journalist that he had previously worked in the police for about 20 years, served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and after a combat wound was transferred to the Territorial Center for Recruitment.

Officially, neither the police nor representatives of the Territorial Center for Recruitment had confirmed the driver’s place of employment at the time of publication.

Oleksandr K. himself denied that he had consumed alcohol before the trip. He said that the accident resulted from an accidental set of circumstances.

Despite this, the man refused to undergo a breathalyzer test with a Drager device and to give blood for laboratory analysis.

According to the publication, law enforcement officers and doctors for several hours offered the driver to undergo an examination. Later, the investigator began the procedure for the forced collection of samples, but a court decision is required for this.

Under the presumption of innocence, the detainee is considered innocent until his guilt is proven in court.
