Mother and daughter were killed in a road accident in Mykolaiv; the other daughter is in hospital — the Audi driver has been detained
The 50-year-old driver of a Citroen C3 was killed at the scene, and her 17-year-old daughter died in the hospital in the morning
Police detained the 31-year-old driver of an Audi who was involved in a fatal road traffic accident in central Mykolaiv. In the morning at the hospital a 17-year-old passenger of a Citroen C3 died from her injuries, bringing the death toll to 2.
The detention of the driver was confirmed to the publication PN by the communications department of the National Police Main Directorate in Mykolaiv Oblast.
The crash occurred at around 22:15 on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at the signal-controlled intersection of Central Avenue and Zakhysnykiv Mykolaiva Street, formerly Dekabristiv.
An Audi and a Citroen C3 collided at the intersection.
As a result of the powerful impact the 50-year-old woman who was driving the Citroen C3 sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.
Also in the Citroen were two 17-year-old girls – the daughters of the deceased driver. Both minors with bodily injuries were taken to hospital.
On the morning of June 21, 2026 one of the girls died in the medical facility from her injuries.
Her 17-year-old sister remains under doctors’ care. Detailed information about her condition at the time of publication is not available.
The Audi driver did not suffer any injuries in the collision.
After initial investigative actions the 31-year-old man was detained in the course of proceedings.
Law enforcement is preparing to notify him of suspicion. After that the court must consider the investigators’ and prosecutors’ motion and select a preventive measure for the suspect.
Criminal proceedings have been preliminarily qualified under Part 3 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – violation of road safety rules by a person who operates a vehicle in a state of alcoholic, narcotic or other intoxication that caused the death of the victim.
At the same time the police’s initial official statement did not indicate which of the accident participants was found to be intoxicated, and the results of the examination of the Audi driver were not published.
Final conclusions regarding the driver’s condition, the collision mechanism, vehicle speeds and causes of the accident must be made after expert examinations and other investigative actions.
The sanction of Part 3 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine provides for imprisonment from 5 to 10 years with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a term of 5 to 10 years.
After the minor’s death investigators must take the new consequences of the accident into account during the further investigation and the final legal qualification of the driver’s actions.
Thus, one nighttime crash took the lives of a mother and her 17-year-old daughter. Another minor girl remains in hospital.
Police continue to establish all the circumstances of the tragedy. In accordance with the presumption of innocence, the detainee is presumed innocent until his guilt is proven by a guilty verdict in court.
