9 years to the sentence: in Korabelnyi district a pensioner received a suspended sentence for indecent acts against a neighbor's daughter

Korabelnyi District Court of Mykolaiv found a 72-year-old pensioner guilty of committing lewd acts against a minor girl. Despite proven guilt, the man avoided actual imprisonment and received 5 years of imprisonment suspended with a probation period of 3 years. The verdict came into legal force on 26 March 2026.

According to the case materials, the events took place in the Korabelnyi district of Mykolaiv in the spring of 2017. The court found that the man met the minor girl on the street, treated her to sweets and invited her to his garage located near the house where he lived. There he showed the child his genitals, forced her to touch them with her hands and committed other sexual acts.

According to the court, such episodes occurred repeatedly.

The investigation established that in the garage the accused committed about ten similar episodes against the child. In addition, at least twice he invited the minor into the interior of a LAZ bus parked near the house on Tarle Street, where he also committed lewd acts.

During the trial the man did not admit guilt and insisted that the girl had allegedly slandered him because of conflicts between their families. He claimed that the victim did not enter his garage and that the bus was not parked near the house.

At the same time, the victim, who was interviewed via videoconference, described the circumstances of the events in detail and reported that the man regularly called her to the garage and the bus, showed his genitals, forced her to undress, threatened her and forbade her to tell adults about it.

The girl’s testimony was corroborated by other participants in the trial. The victim’s mother said that her daughter told her about the neighbor’s actions and that he treated her to candies. Witnesses were also questioned who saw the child enter the accused’s household territory and the garage.

The court paid particular attention to the results of the psychological and psychiatric examination of the victim. Experts concluded that the child has no tendency to fantasize or fabricate events, could reproduce the factual circumstances of what happened, and did not understand the nature of the sexual acts that were committed against her.

After analyzing all the evidence, the court found the man guilty under ch. 2 art. 156 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — lewd acts against a minor.

The court sentenced him to 5 years of imprisonment with disqualification from working in fields related to the education, upbringing and leisure of children for a period of 2 years. At the same time, pursuant to Article 75 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the man was released from serving the sentence with probation, establishing a 3-year probation period. He will also be entered into the Unified Register of Persons Convicted of Crimes Against the Sexual Freedom and Sexual Integrity of Minors.

At the time of the crime the girl was only 8 years old. When the verdict came into legal force in March 2026, the victim was already 17 — almost her entire childhood passed between traumatic memories, interrogations and awaiting the court outcome.
