In Lymany near Mykolaiv, 10 air samples showed formaldehyde above the limit; coliforms were found in wells
The results showing deviations and the recommendations have already been forwarded to the village council and the local municipal enterprise; soil samples did not reveal any violations
In Halytsynove and Lymany near Mykolaiv, air quality was tested in May and excess formaldehyde was detected in 10 samples from Lymany, the Mykolaiv Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine reported.
Specialists collected a total of 120 samples and assessed them for 6 chemical indicators from control locations: near the “Veselka” kindergarten on Tsentralna Street in Halytsynove and on Naberezhna Street in Lymany.
According to the measurements, air in Lymany showed exceedances of the maximum permissible concentration of formaldehyde in the range of 1.1–1.4 times, while other indicators met the standards.
“Formaldehyde in ambient air appears mainly due to anthropogenic factors: the operation of vehicle engines and generators, fires, etc. The chemical is toxic, of hazard class 2, can contribute to an increased risk of health complications due to its carcinogenic action and can cause a rise in oncological diseases,” the Mykolaiv Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine said.
Water from local wells was checked separately: in Lymany, on Novobudivna and Naberezhna streets, 2 samples showed exceedances of the maximum permissible concentration of chlorides by 1.1 and 1.2 times, and in the sample from Naberezhna Street the total microbial count was above the norm by 1.2 times; total coliforms were also detected.
At the same time, two other water samples from wells in Halytsynove on Tsentralna and Horikhova streets met the established requirements, as did the soil samples, where no exceedances were recorded.
The center reported that materials with the detected deviations and recommendations were sent to the head of the Halytsynivska village council and to the leadership of the municipal enterprise “Ukrainkivskyi Silkomunhosp” for further action.
