The Chornomorsk Salt Plant in the Odesa region, after several months of delay, has begun full-scale production of food-grade salt and announced its readiness to supply about 50% of domestic demand for this product.

The launch and current operating mode of the enterprise was reported by the company’s CEO Vitaliy Rudenko in a comment to RBC-Ukraine.

According to the head, since mid-May the plant has been producing salt of various fractions and packaging formats, and all technological lines are operating in normal mode.

“Since mid-May we have started producing products on the main line. It can be said that all of the plant’s capacities are now up and running. Production is entering a cycle of continuous operation,” said Vitaliy Rudenko.

The declared production capacity is up to 15 thousand tonnes of salt per month, which, according to the company, allows covering approximately 50% of domestic market needs.

Specialists from the state enterprise “Artemsil”, which halted operations after the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, participated in the launch and adjustment of processes at the site; in particular, the chief engineer of that state enterprise joined the team.

Further plans include extracting salt from the Kuyalnyk estuary in the Odesa region, which is expected to enable production of up to 200 thousand tonnes per year and fully meet Ukraine’s demand for food salt.

Construction of the new enterprise started in 2024, and production was initially planned to begin in January 2026, but the launch was postponed due to severe frosts, power outages and a shortage of specialized personnel.
