Two people injured in the city council building: the first deputy mayor detained in Svitlovodsk
An official may face up to seven years in prison
In Svitlovodsk, Kirovohrad region the police opened a pre-trial investigation after a shooting in the city council building. As a result of the conflict, two men were injured.
According to the Kirovohrad Region police, the incident occurred on May 12, 2026 at about 11:48 in the office of the first deputy mayor.
Preliminarily, law enforcement established that three men entered the official’s office. A conflict arose between the official and the visitors, during which the man produced a traumatic (non-lethal) pistol and fired several shots at his opponents.
As a result of the shooting, two people were injured. The victims were handed over to medical personnel to receive the necessary assistance.
Law enforcement detained the official in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. During initial investigative actions, the police seized the traumatic weapon.
Following the incident, investigators opened a criminal case under Part 4 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — hooliganism. The article’s sanction provides for a punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of three to seven years.
According to the publication “Kirovohradska Pravda”, in connection with the shooting the first deputy mayor Serhiy Savich was detained.
Investigative actions are currently ongoing. Law enforcement is establishing all the circumstances of the incident.
