Light Despite the Loss: In Mykolaiv, Police Officers Congratulated the Daughter of a Fallen Major on Her Birthday
When dad's colleagues don't forget: 14-year-old Yeseniya was congratulated in Mykolaiv
Today, 23 April 2026, in Mykolaiv officers of the regional police headquarters greeted on her birthday Yeseniya Khomin — the daughter of a fallen law enforcement officer, a serviceman of the rifle battalion of the police special purpose unit. On that day the girl turned 14 years old.
The child’s father, police major Oleksandr Khomin, was killed 21 July 2025 while carrying out a combat mission in the Donetsk region. He suffered a fatal wound as a result of a strike by an enemy guided aerial bomb.
On behalf of the leadership of the Mykolaiv regional police, colleagues congratulated Yeseniya Khomin on the occasion and wished her health, peace, a happy childhood and the fulfillment of her dreams. The officers also assured that they will continue to support the family of the fallen colleague and remain by their side.
This story is not only about a birthday. It is about children whose war has taken their dearest, and about memory that does not end after the funeral. Behind every report of a fallen Ukrainian defender stands a family forced to live with that loss every day.
