SBU General Duka taken into custody; bail set at 65 million hryvnias
SAPO sought bail of UAH 100 million in the “Carthage” case
General of the Security Service of Ukraine Serhii Duka was ordered held in custody for 60 days, with the option of posting bail. The decision was made by the High Anti-Corruption Court at a hearing on Friday, November 6. The general is suspected of involvement in a criminal organization in the “Carthage” case.
The court set bail at 65 million hryvnias, although the SAPO prosecutor had requested 100 million hryvnias. If bail is posted, the suspect will be required to comply with the procedural obligations set by the court.
Journalists were unable to attend the hearing in person, where the HACC considered the preventive measure for the general: they were not allowed into the courtroom. Instead, the hearing was streamed in another room.
Before being dismissed, Serhii Duka was the first deputy head of the Department for the Protection of National Statehood. However, after losing the position, he remained in service.
Earlier, Oleksandr Abakumov spoke about the circumstances of the search at Duka’s premises. According to him, the general threatened detectives with a pistol and smashed equipment with a hammer. Abakumov also said that members of “Alpha” tried to evacuate the general.
