70 missiles overnight, 11 killed: Russia strikes Kyiv and 12 regions of Ukraine
In several cities, a Russian attack claimed lives; children were among the injured
On the night of October 7, 2026, the Russian army carried out one of the largest attacks in recent times on Ukrainian territory. According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the enemy used around 70 missiles, a significant number of them ballistic, as well as attack drones. The President stressed that one of the key targets of the Russian attack was Ukraine’s energy sector. He said the Russians had tried to strike “painfully and for show.”
“One of the key targets was our energy sector. The Russians wanted to strike painfully and for show. This was one of the most vile attacks: 70 missiles in total, many of them ballistic, as well as Shaheds. Unfortunately, only some of them were intercepted.”
At the same time, the President once again stressed that Russian ballistic missiles remain one of the greatest challenges for Ukraine’s air defense system, and that Ukraine needs additional missiles for its Patriot systems.
Pryluky: five-story apartment building destroyed
The most tragic consequences were reported in Pryluky, Chernihiv region, where a Russian missile hit an ordinary residential building. According to figures released on the morning of October 7, five people were killed and another 26 were injured. Among the injured were five children. People may still be trapped under the rubble of the destroyed five-story building. Rescuers are continuing search-and-rescue operations, trying to reach everyone who may have been buried beneath the debris.
Commenting on the tragedy, Zelenskyy called the destroyed building a “gift” from the Russian army to its dictator, Putin, whose birthday falls on October 7.
Kyiv: two people killed
The Russian attack also caused deaths in Kyiv. Two people were killed in the Darnytskyi district. While putting out a fire at a garage cooperative, rescuers saved two more people. The attack also caused damage in other parts of the capital, including non-residential areas and warehouse premises.
Kremenchuk: apartment buildings damaged
In Kremenchuk, Poltava region, Russian missiles damaged four apartment buildings. According to information released by Volodymyr Zelenskyy, two people were killed and another eight were injured. The Russian attack on Poltava region continued overnight and into the morning, while local authorities reported emergency services at work and efforts to deal with the aftermath.
Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia
In Dnipro, the missile attack damaged five apartment buildings. Infrastructure facilities were also hit, in addition to residential areas. In Zaporizhzhia, a Russian drone damaged an apartment building. Regional authorities also reported widespread damage from Russian attacks across the region.
Oleksandriia: critical infrastructure targeted
In Oleksandriia, Kirovohrad region, Russian forces attacked critical infrastructure. According to preliminary information, two people were killed. Reports also mentioned injuries and people who, for some time after the strike, could not be contacted.
Thus, according to figures available on the morning of October 7, the Russian attack had already claimed at least 11 lives in Pryluky, Kyiv, Kremenchuk, and Oleksandriia. The number of those killed and injured could change as rescue workers cleared the rubble and verified the information.
Overall, according to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Kyiv and 12 regions of Ukraine came under attack that night. The main target of the massive strike was energy infrastructure, but Russian missiles and drones once again hit residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure.
The President stressed that further strengthening of air defenses is essential to protect Ukrainian cities, including the provision of missiles for Patriot systems.
Once again, Russia has shown that its “military targets” in practice include ordinary homes, civilian infrastructure, and energy facilities.
