Torture of a 7-year-old boy: three children were taken from a foster family in the Odesa region

In one of the settlements of the Rozdilna district of Odesa region three children were removed from a foster family and placed into a patronage family. According to the investigation, the 7-year-old boy in this family was systematically beaten and humiliated as punishment for his behavior. According to od.npu.gov.ua.

In addition to the boy, since November 2024 the family had been raising girls aged 11 and 13 years. All the children were examined by doctors.

Main Department of the National Police in Odesa region announced suspicions against members of the foster family. The court imposed the following preventive measures on them:

• 42-year-old foster mother was taken into custody;
• her 46-year-old husband was placed under round-the-clock house arrest;
• their 19-year-old son was also placed under round-the-clock house arrest.

The suspects are accused of torture by prior conspiracy of a group of persons — under part 2 of Article 127 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This carries a sentence of between 5 and 10 years of imprisonment.

Law enforcement has opened a separate criminal proceeding against officials of the Service for Children who were supposed to oversee this family. It concerns official negligence under Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Investigative actions are ongoing.
