They demanded $2,000 for a non-existent debt and wounded a man in Mykolaiv Oblast
In Mykhailo-Laryne the victim is in hospital; two men have been notified of suspicion
In the village of Mykhailo-Laryne in the Mykolaiv region on the afternoon of October 1, two men, according to the police, demanded from a woman USD 2,000 for a non-existent debt and the documents for her father’s vehicle. During the conflict, one of the attackers fired toward her 38-year-old husband and wounded him in the abdomen. The victim was hospitalized, and both suspects were located and detained within a few hours.
The victim’s wife reported the shooting on the roadway to police station No. 4 of the Mykolaiv District Police Department. According to her, two unknown individuals threatened her with physical violence and demanded not only money but also the vehicle registration certificate for a vehicle that belongs to her father.
After the shots, the men got into a Volkswagen Transporter and fled. Medics transported the wounded man to the hospital with an abdominal injury. Doctors assess his condition as moderate. At the crime scene, police seized four spent casings.
The search for the attackers involved:
- officers from the local police station;
- operatives of the Criminal Investigation Department and the Mykolaiv District Police Department;
- specialists from the Criminal Analysis Department of the Mykolaiv Oblast Police.
In particular, using available surveillance cameras, police determined the vehicle’s route within several hours, found it, and identified the persons involved in the attack. They turned out to be residents of the Bashtanka district aged 30 and 36. The vehicle was stopped in another settlement of the Mykolaiv district.
During an urgent search of the vehicle, law enforcement officers found and seized an object resembling a pistol and two cartridges. The men were detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. As the police note, both had previously come to the attention of law enforcement.
Under the procedural leadership of the Mykolaiv District Prosecutor’s Office, the detainees were notified of suspicion under Part 4 of Article 189 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This concerns extortion of another’s property or the right to it by threatening violence against the victim or their close relatives, committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy under martial law.
The court has already chosen preventive measures for the suspects, but the type was not specified in the police report. For the charged crime, the men face up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property. The pre-trial investigation continues.
