Sold grenades and failed to return to his unit: a 'Shkval' serviceman was sentenced in the Mykolaiv region

A serviceman of the assault company “Shkval” was sentenced to 7 years in prison for unauthorized absence from service and the illegal sale of ammunition. This decision was made by the Ochakiv City District Court of Mykolaiv Oblast, according to the published verdict. According to reyestr.court.gov.ua.

Court materials describe how at the end of November 2024 the machine-gun platoon driver, after treatment in hospital, did not return to the military unit. There was no contact with him for more than three days.

Separately, the court considered the sale of ammunition to civilians in March and April. For them the serviceman received a total of 8 thousand hryvnias. Among the items sold were:

• RG-4 grenades;
• M-67 grenades;
• F-1 grenade bodies;
• UZRGM fuzes.

At the hearing, the defendant fully admitted guilt. When determining the sentence, the court took into account his prior conviction. The man will remain in custody until the verdict takes legal effect.

The convicted person must also reimburse over 30,800 hryvnias spent on explosive-technical examinations.
