Two men were fishing with an electric fishing rod in Mykolaiv Oblast
The catch and the prohibited gear were seized; the issue of criminal liability is being decided
On the Inhulets Main Canal in the Mykolaiv region, two men were detained for illegally fishing with an electrofishing device. The incident was reported by the Mykolaiv Fisheries Protection Patrol.
The offenders were discovered during a joint raid by fisheries patrol inspectors and water police officers on the canal’s waters. The prohibited electrofishing device and the illegally caught fish were seized.
The fisheries patrol explained that the use of electric current for fishing causes serious harm to aquatic biological resources and the ecosystem of the waterbody.
Administrative materials were drawn up against the men. At the same time, it is being decided whether to bring them to criminal liability under Part 2 of Article 249 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — illegal engagement in fishing, hunting, or other aquatic harvesting activities.
