She sold a seized Mercedes, and then fabricated its theft in Mykolaiv
The woman was sentenced to two years' restriction of liberty with probation
A court in Mykolaiv found a woman guilty who sold her Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 despite a seizure placed on the vehicle, and later reported the car as allegedly stolen. In this way she tried to avoid possible financial consequences related to loan obligations and enforcement proceedings. According to reyestr.court.gov.ua.
In the summer of 2025 the owner handed the car to men she did not know and received money from them. The deal was made near the residential complex “Riviera” on Lazurna Street in Mykolaiv. At that time the woman knew the car had been seized in connection with an enforcement proceeding.
On January 12, 2026 she contacted the police and reported that an unknown person had unlawfully taken her Mercedes-Benz GLE 450. A criminal case was opened on this basis.
During the investigation it turned out that the car had not been stolen: the owner had sold it herself and received the money. Later she returned to law enforcement and confessed that her first report had been false.
In court the woman fully admitted her guilt. She explained that she decided to sell the seized car to avoid the financial consequences of the seizure.
Her actions were classified under part 2 of Article 383 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — as knowingly false reporting of a crime combined with accusing a person of an especially serious offense.
When choosing the punishment, the court took into account that the woman had not previously been held criminally or administratively liable. She admitted guilt, expressed remorse, and assisted in solving the offense. The court found no circumstances that would aggravate the punishment.
She was sentenced to two years of restriction of liberty but was released from actually serving the sentence with a probationary period of one year. During this time she must periodically register with the probation authority and report any change of residence or employment.
Also, the convicted woman was ordered to pay the state UAH 2,228.50 to cover the costs of the expert examination. The verdict may be appealed in the appellate procedure within 30 days.
