In Mykolaiv, sewerage services may become 2.5 times more expensive

In Mykolaiv, from October 1 the sewerage tariff for the population may change significantly. The cost of the service is proposed to be increased from 16.512 hryvnias to 41.256 hryvnias per cubic meter including VAT.

The municipal enterprise «Mykolaivvodokanal» reported the intention to review the tariff. The relevant document was published on the website of the Mykolaiv City Council.

The current tariff excluding VAT is 13.76 hryvnias per cubic meter. The enterprise proposes to set it at 34.38 hryvnias without tax, which forms the final price of 41.256 hryvnias for consumers.

At «Mykolaivvodokanal» they explain that the current cost of the service was calculated based on 2021 indicators. Since then, according to the enterprise’s calculations, major expenses have changed:

• electricity prices have increased by 57.7%;
• the cost of fuel and lubricants has increased by 2.18 times;
• taxes and levies have increased by 2.86 times;
• expenses for network repairs, the subsistence minimum and employee wage rates have increased.

According to the water utility, the current price covers only 38.1% of the cost of sewerage. The enterprise estimates the full cost of the service at 32.58 hryvnias per cubic meter excluding VAT.

Comments and proposals regarding the tariff change can be submitted by residents of Mykolaiv within seven calendar days from September 10.

Earlier the director of the municipal enterprise «Mykolaivvodokanal», Hennadiy Izyumov, stated that until the end of 2026 the water supply tariff for the population would not change. The former head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, Vitaliy Kim, also said that he would make efforts to prevent an increase in the tariff for centralized drinking water supply.

The mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Sienkevych, explained that the city pays for water from the new water main by meter, and this may affect the future cost of the service. The water utility did not rule out that after the launch of the new treatment facilities the water tariff for Mykolaiv residents could reach 100 hryvnias per cubic meter. According to the mayor, the current price of water no longer covers the enterprise’s operating expenses and does not allow it to operate fully and develop.
