Ukraine ranked 10th in the world and became the leader of Eastern Europe in terms of blueberry plantation area. Berry plantations cover about 6 thousand hectares, of which approximately 5 thousand are already bearing fruit.

These data were provided by the association “Berry Growing of Ukraine” referring to the IBO Global Blueberry Report 2026. In 2025 Ukrainian producers harvested about 14 thousand tons of blueberries.

The average yield was only 2.87 tons per hectare. This is three times less than the global average, which is 9 tons per hectare.

Experts link the low productivity to a large number of young plantations that have not yet reached full yield. An additional factor is the prevalence of varieties that require more time to reach maximum productivity. Frosts and the insufficient level of technological development on some small farms also affected the result.

At the same time, the geography of Ukrainian berry exports is changing. In 2025 foreign shipments of fresh blueberries decreased by 25% compared to the peak figure of 2024.

The Netherlands became the largest buyer of Ukrainian blueberries. Meanwhile, Poland’s share in Ukrainian exports fell from 27% in 2023 to 15% in 2025.

Promising directions for Ukrainian exporters include:

  • The Netherlands;
  • Scandinavia;
  • the United Kingdom.

Experts believe producers should focus less on expanding areas and more on increasing yields, berry quality, and implementing modern cultivation technologies.
