In the Mykolaiv region, employees of a state enterprise attempted to export 7,600 tonnes of grain

In the Mykolaiv region, a court found employees of the state enterprise «Bread Depot No. 76» guilty of attempting to seize grain belonging to the State Reserve Agency of Ukraine in especially large amounts. The scheme was uncovered after an attempt to transport wheat without proper documents.

According to the case materials, the acting deputy director of the enterprise organized the illegal scheme. Wheat of classes 2–3 with a total volume of more than 7,600 tons was to be transported without documents, while the invoices stated that it was “separation residues.”

“Accountants, department heads and laboratories were involved in carrying out the plan. Some of the participants acted under police supervision,” the case materials state.

17 September 2020 the group members tried to transport the grain on six trucks. Law enforcement recorded their actions, after which the organizer and his accomplices were detained.

Court decisions regarding the group members were made approximately six years after the attempt to transport the grain. Sentences were distributed as follows:

• The acting deputy director was found guilty of organizing the theft and abusing his official position. He was sentenced to 7 years in prison with confiscation of property;
• The head of the laboratory received 5 years in prison;
• An accountant was sentenced to a 4-year suspended sentence with a probationary period;
• Yet one other unit head, whose case was heard separately, received 3 years imprisonment.

Thus, the court confirmed the guilt of several members of the organized group and imposed sentences on them, including actual prison terms. The case concerns the embezzlement of state property in especially large amounts.

Earlier, the deputy head of the Main Audit and Revision Office said in Mykolaiv that the State Reserve is empty.
