Mykolaiv prepares to receive residents of Kherson who may be evacuated in winter

In Mykolaiv, authorities have begun searching for vacant dormitories for the possible accommodation of residents of Kherson. People may be evacuated in winter due to the difficult heating situation in the city.

This was discussed during a staff meeting at the Mykolaiv City Council on September 7. Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych said that representatives of the French Embassy had contacted him.

According to the mayor, serious accommodation problems are expected in Kherson this winter. Because of this, foreign partners want to help, and a significant number of Kherson residents may be evacuated to neighboring cities, including Mykolaiv.

The French side expressed readiness to repair vacant dormitories, furnish them, and fully prepare them for people to move in.

Oleksandr Senkevych instructed officials to study the situation and prepare a list of facilities where, after the necessary work, residents of neighboring Kherson could be placed.

In Kherson, the zone of mandatory evacuation was also expanded due to intensified Russian shelling.
