The head of the Kherson OVA, Oleksandr Prokudin, appealed to Kherson residents urging them to leave the city if they have the opportunity. The reason was another attack by Russian forces on the Kherson TPP, after which the station suffered very serious damage.

This was stated by Oleksandr Prokudin in his address, reports “MikVisti”.

According to the official, on the night of 27 August 2026 Russian forces again struck the Kherson TPP with guided aerial bombs.

We can no longer expect the TPP or other critical infrastructure facilities to operate in the usual mode this winter.

Prokudin noted that the security situation in Kherson remains extremely difficult. Russian forces intensify daily attacks on the region’s critical infrastructure.

From 1 July 2026 there have already been 170 strikes with guided aerial bombs across Kherson region. In almost two months they used more than in the entire first half of 2026. In addition, over the past two months Russian forces launched more than 1,700 strike drones, and just in the last week the number of FPV drone attacks rose to 6,500.

We must be honest: Kherson may remain without power and heating not for hours or days, but for a long time. And we need to prepare for this now.

The head of the OVA reported that regional and city authorities, together with communal services, energy workers and the government, are already working on alternative options for heat and energy supply.

At the same time, he asked residents who have the opportunity to move to safer regions to take advantage of it.

I again address Kherson residents, especially families with children and the elderly: if you have the means, relatives or friends in safer regions — leave!

For evacuation, the Kherson OVA is ready to help with transport, accommodation and social support. Residents can contact the Kherson OVA contact center by phone:

  • 0 800 101 102;
  • 0 800 330 951.

The government evacuation hotline is 1548.

Previous attacks on the Kherson TPP

The Kherson TPP suffered numerous Russian attacks at the end of 2025 and the beginning of 2026. In December, shelling almost completely destroyed the station. During the first two days of 2026 alone, Russian forces carried out more than 10 targeted strikes on it.

A renewed attack on the Kherson TPP took place in August 2026. Russian forces hit Kherson with a guided aerial bomb, damaging one of the facilities of the “Naftogaz” group.

At that time the TPP suffered critical destruction: all remaining heat-generating and power-generating equipment at the station was completely destroyed and rendered inoperative.

However, on the next 27 August the station’s territory was struck by four guided aerial bombs at once.

As of 28 August, around 50% of Kherson’s population remained without electricity due to damage to the energy infrastructure. Electricity in the city was supplied on an hourly basis and in small amounts.

Also, Kherson online media “MOST”, citing pro-Russian media, reported a massive blackout in the temporarily occupied part of Kherson region. According to Russian sources, the entire region was left without power. They called the cause a “technological malfunction” in the energy system.
