In the Mykolaiv region, a man rolled someone else’s moped onto another street, but he was quickly found
Vehicle returned to owner in Yuzhnoukrainsk
The parked Suzuki moped was rolled onto a neighboring street by the suspect to hide it. However, he was quickly exposed by police. Law enforcement officers have now returned the vehicle to its owner. The offender, who was wanted for committing a similar crime, was detained by investigators and informed of suspicion. For the offense the man faces up to eight years in prison.
Information about the illegal seizure of the moped was received by operators of the emergency line 102 yesterday, 3 September, at around 07:00 from the owner.
Officers from the investigative-operational team of Police Station No. 3 of the Voznesensk district department arrived at the scene and established that the complainant had parked his two-wheeled vehicle the previous evening near the entrance of a multi-storey building on European Street.
During operational-search measures, police found the stolen moped parked on another street in the city and identified the offender. He turned out to be a 51-year-old man. The suspect was wanted by the pre-trial investigation authorities and is a suspect in committing a similar crime in Pervomaisk. At that time the court had placed him under house arrest as a preventive measure.
Investigators detained the offender in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and, under the procedural supervision of the Yuzhnoukrainsk division of the Voznesensk district prosecutor’s office, informed him of suspicion of illegal seizure of a vehicle, committed repeatedly – Part 2 of Article 289 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The suspect faces up to eight years in prison with possible confiscation of property.
Police have already filed a motion with the court to impose a preventive measure on the suspect in the form of detention in custody without the possibility of bail.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
