Killed his mother's dog and stole from a car: man sent to prison
Kuzya the dog died from an impact with the floor: the verdict has been delivered
In Kyiv, a court found a 34-year-old man guilty of throwing his mother’s Maltese dog onto the floor. The animal died from the injuries sustained. The Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office reported the guilty verdict on 19 August 2026.
The Kyiv resident lived with his mother and brother. When he entered his mother’s room, her dog nicknamed Kuzya began to bark. The man did not like this. He grabbed the Maltese and forcefully threw it into the corridor. The dog hit the floor and died from the sustained injuries. The incident occurred in September 2025, and in October the indictment was forwarded to the court.
The man was found guilty of cruel treatment of an animal that led to its death, under Part 3 of Article 299 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. In addition, the Kyiv resident was tried for theft of property from a car that the owner had left unlocked, under Part 4 of Article 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
For the combined commission of these two crimes the court sentenced the man to 6 years of imprisonment. Thus, this term was imposed not only for the death of the dog but also taking the theft into account. The convicted man is currently in custody.
