In the Polish city of Bydgoszcz, adults attacked two underage Ukrainians who were speaking to each other in Ukrainian. The victims were a 14-year-old girl and her 12-year-old brother. The incident occurred on 14 August in a park near the railway station.

As reported by the Consulate General of Ukraine in Gdańsk, a man and a woman who were walking a dog began insulting the children, threatening them, and showed aggression motivated by national hostility.

“The attackers threatened to do them harm and used physical force,” the Consulate General reported.

During the attack the girl’s arm was twisted and her toy drone was broken. The fragments were thrown at the boy, causing him to sustain scratches.

A report of the attack has been filed with the police, who are searching for the man and the woman. The children’s physical health is not currently in danger, but they experienced severe emotional stress.

The Consulate General of Ukraine in Gdańsk is keeping the case under special supervision, maintains contact with the victims’ mother, and is providing her with legal assistance. The office strongly condemned the acts of xenophobia.

The consulate urged anyone who saw the incident or knows the attackers to promptly contact the police. The safety of Ukrainians will be a key issue at the consulate’s upcoming meeting with the leadership of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, city mayors, and police commanders.

Earlier in Poznań, two Polish women attacked Ukrainians and staged a rampage in a café.
