On the coast of the Mykolaiv region near Rybakivka a live short‑beaked common dolphin was found, but despite attempts to help the animal it soon died; the incident was reported on the “Dolphins of the Azov and Black Seas” page on Facebook, noting that this is the first time in a long while that a live common dolphin has been recorded on this stretch of shore.

According to experts, the dolphin was in critical condition and showed pronounced emaciation, which could have been the result of illness or injury that lasted at least several days; however, the exact cause of death has not yet been established.

The animal was found still alive, but its condition was so severe that rescue measures were unsuccessful, and the dolphin died shortly after being found.

Around the same time, another tragic case was recorded on the coast of the Odesa region — a dead porpoise was found.

The authors of the post thanked representatives of NVP “Biloberezhzhia Sviatoslava”, the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, the State Environmental Inspectorate and border unit personnel, as well as all those concerned who report marine mammals found on the coast.

Experts emphasize that this year has proven especially difficult for Black Sea dolphins, and the cause of the short‑beaked common dolphin’s death in Rybakivka remains unknown.
