Specialists of the Main Department “Mykolaiv Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine”, based on the results of the weekly monitoring of samples collected on August 3, reported the detection of Escherichia coli on the «Strilka» beach in Mykolaiv, as well as on the «Chaika» beach and in the «Namiv» recreational area of the Buzkyi Lyman, while the cholera vibrio was not detected in the examined samples.

Inspections covered several water bodies and locations: the Inhul River (the «Strilka» beach in Mykolaiv), the Southern Bug River (the «Raiduga» beach in Pervomaisk and the city beach in Pivdennoukrainsk), the Buzkyi Lyman (the «Chaika» beach and the «Namiv» recreation area in Mykolaiv), as well as the Tyligul Lyman (recreation areas in the villages of Koblevo and Ukrainka).

Laboratory analysis confirmed the presence of Escherichia coli in samples from the «Strilka» beach on the Inhul, as well as from the «Chaika» beach and the «Namiv» area on the Buzkyi Lyman, indicating that the water quality at these sites does not meet sanitary requirements.

Such results indicate a potential risk to bathers, so swimming in the mentioned locations may be hazardous to health.

At the same time, the cholera vibrio was not detected in any of the water samples examined.
