Transport should not just stop: Senkevich instructed that a minute of silence be announced every day
Every day without exception: a minute of silence will be enforced on public transport and at workplaces
Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych instructed the heads of municipal enterprises, institutions and organizations to ensure the proper observance of the nationwide minute of silence. Every day at 09:00 city residents must honor the memory of Ukrainian military personnel and civilians who died as a result of Russian aggression.
During a working meeting the mayor emphasized that the requirement must be carried out not formally, but in a way that is clear to employees, passengers and visitors of institutions. Responsibility for organizing the minute of silence should be assigned to specific employees.
Oleksandr Senkevych paid special attention to public transport. According to him, the minute of silence must be properly organized both in municipal trolleybuses, trams and buses, and in route minibuses of private carriers.
Explaining the requirements for carriers, the mayor noted that merely stopping the vehicle is not enough: passengers should understand the reason.
“It should not be the case that transport simply stopped and passengers do not understand what is happening. There must be an audible announcement so that people know: a minute of silence is now taking place in the country to honor the memory of the dead,” – said Oleksandr Senkevych.
The mayor urged all municipal enterprises and institutions to use existing notification systems. Where such equipment is not available, managers should install simple sound devices through which the start of the minute of silence will be announced daily.
Oleksandr Senkevych stressed that honoring the dead should not be perceived as a formal requirement or another routine instruction from the city authorities.
“This is not a formality. It is our moral duty to those who gave their lives for Ukraine, and a sign of support for the military who are defending the state today. It is precisely respect for our people and the memory of the dead that distinguishes us from the enemy,” – the mayor emphasized.
Heads of municipal enterprises, institutions and organizations must check whether the minute of silence is observed daily without exceptions. Separately, they should appoint employees responsible for the timely activation of the audible announcement.
Previously, the problem of ignoring the minute of silence repeatedly caused outrage among the residents of Mykolaiv. In July 2026 the mayor had already called on enterprises, institutions, markets and retail chains not to stop making the announcement at 09:00, and also demanded the return of the practice of stopping traffic at certain intersections in the city.
