In the Odesa region, a man left his partner in the cold for 12 hours — she died

In the Odesa region, law enforcement officers have charged a 43-year-old resident of the Artsyz community, who, according to investigators, left his partner without assistance; the incident occurred in April this year, the woman died from hypothermia, and the suspect faces up to 8 years in prison.

The Main Directorate of the National Police in the Odesa region reported the procedural decision and circumstances of the incident, publishing details on its website at the following link.

The body of the 38-year-old woman was found on the street by a passerby in April this year, and a forensic medical examination determined the cause of death — general hypothermia of the body.

The investigation found that the previous evening the couple, intoxicated with alcohol, were returning home from acquaintances; a quarrel with pushing broke out between them, as a result both fell; the man got up and went home, while the woman remained lying on the ground in the cold for almost 12 hours.

According to the case materials, the suspect was aware of the victim’s helpless state and could have provided her with assistance or called medical services, but did not.

The man’s actions have been qualified under part 3 of Article 135 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine as deliberately leaving without assistance a person who is in a life-threatening condition, which caused death; the pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
