Basilar skull fracture and hemorrhage: man died after being at the Kremenchuk TCC

Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation opened a criminal case over the death of a 52-year-old man who, after being at the Kremenchuk District Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support, was hospitalized with severe bodily injuries.

According to preliminary information, on the evening of July 2, 2026 police officers stopped a vehicle driven by the man. During the interaction, law enforcement officers detected signs of alcohol intoxication.

On the night of July 3 the man was taken to the Kremenchuk District Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support. He remained in the center’s premises until July 4. Investigators are currently checking whether the man could have sustained the injuries during that period.

After his stay at the center, he was hospitalized in serious condition to the intensive care unit of one of Kremenchuk‘s hospitals.

July 5, 2026 the man underwent surgery, but he could not be saved. July 9 he died.

According to the medical certificate, the cause of death was a closed craniocerebral injury, fracture of the bones of the base of the skull, hemorrhages under the membranes and into the substance of the brain. According to preliminary conclusions, the detected bodily injuries could have been inflicted with a blunt object.

The criminal case was opened under Part 5 of Article 426-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — excess of power or official authority by a military service person, committed under martial law.

DBR officers are establishing the full chronology of events, the circumstances of the fatal injuries and the persons who may be involved.

As part of the investigation, law enforcement officers seized footage from video surveillance cameras. Investigators are analyzing the video, questioning staff of the territorial center, studying documents and other materials that may be relevant to the case.

The actions of all persons who contacted the man from the moment the police stopped his vehicle until his hospitalization are being separately checked.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. Procedural guidance is being provided by the Poltava Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Defense.

The guilt of specific individuals can only be established by a court’s guilty verdict.
