Shmyhal in Mykolaiv: the region will be reinforced with equipment ahead of the heating season
26 transformers and a 1 MW energy storage: the region is being prepared for winter
Mykolaiv region was visited by the First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine — Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal. During a meeting with the regional leadership and energy companies they discussed preparations for the autumn–winter period, restoration of damaged facilities, and protection of critical infrastructure. The results of the meeting were reported on 8 July 2026 by the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration and Denys Shmyhal.
With the support of the Japan International Cooperation Agency JICA, the region is to receive 26 power transformers. Another eight transformer substation kits have already been delivered by the German Society for International Cooperation GIZ.
From the Energy Support Fund, the procurement of equipment for the Mykolaiv region totaling €141.5 million has been approved. Contracts according to the declared needs have already been signed for €49.9 million. The equipment is planned to be used to restore infrastructure, improve the reliability of power supply, develop distributed generation, and provide physical protection for energy facilities.
The region is also set to receive critically important equipment under the SPARC program, financed by the U.S. government, and an electricity storage unit with a capacity of 1 MW. Such installations are planned to be provided to each frontline region to reduce the risk of emergency outages.
The implementation of the “Ray of Hope” project continues in the Mykolaiv region. It involves ten medical institutions, four of which already generate their own electricity. The total capacity of the solar panels installed there is 190 kW. Six more hospitals are at various stages of project implementation.
