Leaked marines' positions and an ammunition depot to the enemy: platoon commander sentenced to 15 years
The enemy promised to help them return to occupied Luhansk
In the Mykolaiv region, the commander of a platoon of one of the Marine units was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment with confiscation of property for high treason.
As reported July 1, 2026, the Specialized Defense Prosecutor’s Office of the Southern Region said the 23-year-old serviceman from February to May 2025 cooperated with a representative of Russia’s security services.
In exchange for classified information, the handler promised to help him return to his temporarily occupied native Luhansk region.
In February 2025 the serviceman took a screenshot of his unit’s location and sent it to a representative of the aggressor state.
In May 2025 he provided the coordinates of the marines’ new deployment location, and also reported the location of an ammunition depot and its contents.
In addition, the platoon commander revealed to the enemy the unit’s strength, level of combat readiness, and the servicemen’s moral and psychological state. In correspondence he also expressed willingness to surrender.
The traitor was detained at his place of residence. The pre-trial investigation was conducted by investigators of the SBU Directorate in Mykolaiv Oblast.
The court found the serviceman guilty under part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and sentenced him to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The verdict is not yet final.
