On the charges brought by the Kamianets-Podilskyi District Prosecutor’s Office, the court found a 45-year-old man guilty of committing lewd acts of a sexual nature and of raping a minor. He was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment. Juvenile prosecutors proved in court that the sexual violence against the child continued for several years.
From 2016 the man lived in a common‑law marriage with the girl’s mother; from 2017 he committed sexual acts against the child, and when the girl turned 8 years old he raped her for the first time. In 2024–2025, in the mother’s absence at home, he repeatedly committed sexual violence against his stepdaughter. After separating from the victim’s mother, the man continued the crimes, inviting the girl under the pretext of meeting his son (the minor’s biological brother). While the younger boy watched cartoons in another room, the convict once again committed sexual violence.
To keep the child from speaking about the crime, the convict intimidated and threatened her. Only later did the girl dare to tell about what she had experienced, after which the mother contacted law enforcement.
“The abuser terrorized the girl for years, taking advantage of her helplessness. However, juvenile prosecutors collected an indisputable body of evidence and fully proved his guilt in court. In addition to 15 years in prison, information about the convicted person will be entered for life into the Unified Register of Persons Convicted of Crimes Against Sexual Freedom and Sexual Inviolability of Minors. The protection of children is our absolute priority, and punishment for such crimes is inevitable,” said Natalia Honcharuk, head of the Kamianets-Podilskyi District Prosecutor’s Office.
The court imposed a sentence of 15 years imprisonment; the prosecution is currently preparing an appeal and will insist on imposing a life sentence on the convicted man, taking into account the exceptional severity, cynicism and duration of the crimes against the child’s sexual inviolability.
