The matter will be reviewed during the schedule update — possible adjustments may affect convenient departure times from Kyiv
“Ukrzaliznytsia” in comments under the mayor’s post replied to the appeal of Mykolaiv’s mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych regarding the restoration of the night train on the Mykolaiv — Kyiv route, explaining current limitations and promising to additionally review the issue.
The company emphasized that night services are important for residents of Mykolaiv and the region, in particular for passengers traveling for work, medical, and family reasons, however the current timetable is formed taking into account the security situation in the region, the need for technical maintenance of rolling stock, and ensuring safe working conditions for railway workers.
“At the same time, the current timetable is formed taking into account a number of factors, including the security situation in the region, the need for technical maintenance of rolling stock and ensuring safe working conditions for Mykolaiv railway workers. Unfortunately, the railway infrastructure facilities of the Mykolaiv railway hub and passenger service have repeatedly been and remain under threat as a result of hostile attacks, therefore when planning the train timetable for the assignments of the Mykolaiv passenger carriage depot special attention is paid to minimizing risks for the employees who prepare and service the trains,” — the “Ukrzaliznytsia” said.
“In addition, organizing a night service is a significantly more complex issue than changing a departure time in one direction. A train operates as a single rotation of the consist, so assigning a night service from Mykolaiv would automatically require revising the timetable in the direction from Kyiv to Mykolaiv, which may lead to the loss of convenient departure or arrival times for another group of passengers, in particular those traveling from Kyiv. At the same time, the issue you raised will be additionally worked on by specialized experts during further timetable analysis and transport planning. If opportunities appear to improve connections between Mykolaiv and Kyiv, such proposals will definitely be considered,” — the “Ukrzaliznytsia” added.
