He knocked on the door — then started beating them: a repeat offender attacked pensioners in their apartment
Robber with an overnight-stay service: assaulted the hosts, stayed the night, and in the morning took their money
In Kyiv, police detained a man suspected of an attack on pensioners, assault and robbery. This was reported on May 30, 2026 by the press service of the Kyiv police.
The incident occurred on Almatynska Street in the Dniprovskyi District of Kyiv. An 83-year-old woman contacted the police to report a crime in her apartment. According to the investigation, an unknown man knocked on the apartment door. When the woman’s 63-year-old son opened it, the man immediately attacked him with his fists. To prevent the woman from calling for help, the attacker also beat her.
After frightening the apartment owners, the assailant not only stayed in their home but also spent the night there. In the morning he fled, taking a mobile phone and money. During search activities, police established that the attack may be linked to a 48-year-old local resident who had previously served multiple sentences for property crimes.
Operatives together with criminal analysis analysts identified the suspect, after which investigators detained him in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Also, during the pre-trial investigation law enforcement established that the detainee may be connected to two more thefts that occurred the day before. According to the police, he stole a bicycle and a mobile phone from two city residents.
Investigators seized physical evidence from the detainee and informed him of suspicion under Part 4 of Article 186 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – robbery involving violence that is not dangerous to the life or health of the victim, committed repeatedly, combined with unlawful entry into a dwelling and committed under martial law. The article’s sanction provides for up to 10 years’ imprisonment.
Investigative actions are ongoing. It is also being decided how to legally qualify other crimes the suspect may be involved in.
