A hellish night in Kyiv: dozens of rockets and hundreds of drones struck all districts of the capital
All districts of the capital are under attack: authorities update the figures, and people tally their losses
On the night of 24 May 2026, Russia carried out another massive attack on Ukraine, using, according to preliminary data, 90 missiles and about 600 drones. The vast majority of this weaponry was used against Kyiv. The strike was one of the largest against the capital: damage and destruction were recorded in all districts of the city.
According to updated information from the mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, the number of people injured in the capital rose to 44. Of them, medics hospitalized 28 people, including two children in moderate condition. Another three injured are in serious condition. 16 people received outpatient care.
At the same time, the National Police had earlier reported 34 wounded, among them also two children. According to preliminary data, as a result of the night attack one person died. Due to constant updates, the figures changed throughout the morning as services continued to work at the strike sites.
According to city authorities, no district of Kyiv was left without consequences from the Russian attack. The greatest destruction was suffered by the Shevchenkivskyi District. There, fragments of missiles and drones damaged two residential buildings and an office center. Cars were burning in a parking lot. The vestibule of the metro station “Luk’yanivska” was also damaged, so it will be temporarily out of service.
In the same district people were trapped in shelters at a school and an office center: due to damage to the buildings exits were obstructed or blocked. Rescuers and other emergency services were working on site.
In the Darnytskyi District, fragments of a “Shahed” and missiles damaged a dormitory building, several non-residential premises, an auto repair shop and cars. In the Obolonskyi District an enemy drone hit a private one-story residential house. Near another house a UAV caught fire, and a fire also broke out in a 16-storey building, which spread to a neighboring building.
In the Dniprovskyi District fragments fell on the roof of a residential building. Also, after a UAV hit a private house a fire broke out. In addition, a warehouse building and a garage cooperative were damaged.
In the Sviatoshynskyi District rocket fragments fell on a one-story private home. On the Podil district fragments were recorded falling on the territory of non-residential development. In the Holosiivskyi District rocket fragments fell on the roof of a 24-storey residential building.
In the Desnianskyi District UAV fragments hit the buildings of a supermarket and a shopping center. In the Solomianskyi District a drone struck at the level of the 23rd floor of a 24-storey residential building, after which ignition and destruction of structural elements occurred.
In the Pecherskyi District a UAV strike on a 20-storey residential building caused a fire. City authorities reported that all services are working on site, eliminating the consequences of the attack and assisting those affected.
The massive attack on Kyiv once again showed that Russia continues to deliberately strike residential buildings, civilian infrastructure, shelters, transport and places where civilians were staying at night.
