Not only sea and rafting: Mykolaiv region wants to open a route to attract visitors
The home region as a place of strength: Ukrainians to be shown routes for inner recovery
On Saturday, 23 May 2026, the Mykolaiv region was visited on a working trip by the head of the State Agency for Tourism Development of Ukraine Natalia Tabaka. During a meeting with representatives of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, they discussed the development of tourism, the resort sector and the implementation of the program “Journey to Yourself. Paths of Recovery” in the region.
The event was attended by Deputy Head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration Mykola Marinov, Director of the Department of Economic Development and Regional Policy of the RMA Oleksandr Korolov, head of NGO “Brand Ukraine” Mariya Lypiatska and the organization’s program manager Dariya Voytenko. The main topic of the meeting was the implementation of the national program “Journey to Yourself. Paths of Recovery”. It was initiated by the State Agency for Tourism Development of Ukraine with the support of the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine in partnership with NGO “Brand Ukraine”.
The program is aimed at the emotional and psychophysical recovery of Ukrainians through travel around the country. Its idea combines natural landscapes, cultural heritage and practices of psychological stabilization, forming a different approach to domestic tourism during the war and the future recovery. It is not simply about classic trips or leisure, but about routes that help people regain strength, feel a connection with the country, its nature, history and regional identity. This format now acquires special significance for Ukrainians who live under constant stress due to Russian aggression.
Separately, the meeting addressed cooperation with local self-government bodies. Communities should become an important part of future tourist routes, because without their participation it is impossible to create quality infrastructure, safe conditions and real opportunities for people’s recovery. Natalia Tabaka thanked the Mykolaiv region and everyone who helped present the region’s locations for the program “Journey to Yourself”, emphasizing the region’s potential for domestic tourism.
“We sincerely thank the Mykolaiv region and the people who helped show these places for the program “Journey to Yourself”. This is a special land that has enormous potential for recovery and domestic tourism. We want to tell Ukrainians about it as soon as possible, because these are truly places of strength and recovery”, – said Natalia Tabaka.
Deputy Head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration Mykola Marinov, for his part, stressed the uniqueness of the region, its atmosphere, people and tourism opportunities.
“Mykolaiv region is special. Here are strong, resilient and sincere people, and the region itself has its own unique atmosphere. We are grateful for the attention to our region and convinced that the development of tourism will become one of the important directions of community recovery and the promotion of our cultural and natural heritage”, he emphasized.
The discussion also raised the issue of forming a new tourist identity for Ukraine, developing interregional cooperation and creating modern routes that will help Ukrainians better get to know their own country. For the Mykolaiv region, this topic carries particular weight. Because of the war, the region’s tourism sector has been severely hit, and some traditional leisure directions remain limited due to security risks. At the same time, the region has natural, historical and cultural locations that can become the basis for future community recovery.
At the same time, the main issue remains safety. The development of tourism in a frontline region cannot be built only on attractive presentations: people need clear routes, safe logistics, responsible interaction with communities and an honest assessment of risks. It will depend on these factors whether the Mykolaiv region becomes a true space for recovery, and not just an item in a state program.
