Korabelnyi District in Turkey: Mykolaiv girls showed character at a volleyball festival
Not only humanitarian aid: partner city Nilüfer hosted Mykolaiv women's volleyball players at a tournament
The women’s volleyball team U15 DYUSSH No.5 of the city of Mykolaiv, which represents the Korabelnyi District, took part in the 24th Nilüfer International Sports Festival in Turkey. This was reported on May 19, 2026 by the Mykolaiv City Council. The competitions are being held from May 16 to 20 as part of the Tournament of partner cities. Eight teams from Turkey, Kosovo, Ukraine and Romania are participating in the festival.
For the Mykolaiv athletes this tournament was not only a sporting test but also an opportunity to represent Ukraine at the international level. During the war such trips carry special significance: they show that Ukrainian children continue to train, develop and take the court under their own flag.
At the tournament the volleyball players from Mykolaiv earned one victory against the Hatay team from Turkey. Meanwhile, in matches against teams from the town of Bayramiç in Turkey and the town of Peja in Kosovo, our athletes were defeated.
In addition to the games, festival participants enjoyed a full cultural program. Organizers arranged concerts featuring traditional Turkish performances, excursions, museum visits, as well as a formal dinner for guests and competitors. During the meeting the Mykolaiv volleyball players exchanged gifts with the festival organizers.
Separately, the city council reminded that the city of Nilüfer supported Mykolaiv in the most difficult times. With the assistance of Mayor Turgay Erdem and the Ukrainian community in Bursa, large batches of medicines, food and humanitarian aid were delivered to city hospitals and social institutions. Now the partnership between the cities continues through sport. For the young athletes from the Korabelnyi District participation in such a festival – it is experience of international matches, new acquaintances and another reminder that Mykolaiv remains part of the European and world sporting community.
